Did you know Fido & Rover are welcome on Edisto Beach? That’s right, if you can’t bear to leave your four-legged friends behind, dogs are allowed on our beaches year-round, and from November 1st – April 30th, no leash is required! However, that doesn’t mean we can just let our dogs run rampant all over the beach. It is imperative that any off-leash dog is a good listener. This is important for the safety of both your doggo (who will inevitably find something washed up on the beach that smells very interesting and maybe even tasty) and other dogs and humans enjoying the beach. Dog owners are also required to pick up after their dogs. Come prepared, while each beach access does come equipped with a doggy bag dispenser, they do run out.
Even if you have the most well trained four-legged best friend, it’s still a good idea to carry your leash with you. You never know how your dog may react to other dogs they see running free on the beach, or how well those dogs interact with other dogs. It is also important to be mindful of the other people on the beach who may not love an unknown dog running up to them (even if they just want some loving).
Want to take your buddy out to lunch with you? Head on over to McConkey’s Jungle Shack where dogs are not only allowed to hang out with you on the covered patio portion of the restaurant, but they’ll also probably receive lots of compliments and love. Dogs are also allowed in the “Beer Garden” area located downstairs on the opposite side of the restaurant. Grab a drink and relax with your four-legged friend, you may even get to enjoy some live music if you’re lucky!
