2024 Auction Rules

To participate in the auction, each bidder must pre-register at check-in on the day of the event. Each bidder will receive a unique bidder number and a bid paddle with your number on it, which you will use to place bids throughout the live auction. Auction paddles will be $5.

*You do NOT have to be present to bid. If you are unable to attend the auction in-person, but would still like to bid, you can arrange your own proxy bidder or we can connect you to a volunteer willing to help. Contact the Chamber at chamber@edistochamber.com for additional assistance.

Minimum Bid and Bidding Increments

Bidding will start at $1,500 and bidding will increase by a minimum of $500 per bid.

Winning a Bid

All sales are final. No exchanges or refunds on auction items are permitted. All items are to be sold “as is”. Winning bidders must pay the winning bid immediately after the auction. Failure to do so may result in financial penalties or the forfeiture of the item. Payment will be made directly to the designated non-profit or the Edisto Chamber. Accepted forms of payment will be listed, each non-profit is encouraged to accept multiple forms of payment. Any other arrangements for payment must be made directly with the non-profit.

Legal Liability

Once a turtle has been legally transferred over to the winning bidder, the Edisto Chamber ceases holding any liability over the turtle. Any damages incurred due to its use or misuse is not the Chamber’s responsibility.

Removal of Turtle After Purchase

Winning bidders must make every effort to remove their turtle successfully by 5pm on the day of the auction. Any expenses incurred in moving the turtle are the winning bidder’s alone.

A Worthwhile Investment

Sponsors each invested $1,500 to sponsor a turtle which covered the manufacturing cost of the turtle. Additional costs associated with the project were covered by the Edisto Chamber, along with several community partners, to show support for all the non-profit organizations that do so much to give back within our community.

Added investments for the project included the following:

• Shipping & Transportation from NE to SC
• Fees to Artists
  • Art supplies were covered for members of the Edisto Art Guild by the Edisto Art Guild
  • Additional fees for supplies and time were negotiated between the artist and sponsor
• Turtle Stands
  • Materials to build powder-coated steel bases
  • Labor generously donated by Palmetto Training.
• Clear Coating
  • Automotive grade clear-coat was applied to every side of each turtle
  • This step was generously donated by Lowcountry Collision
• Signs
  • Each turtle was affixed with outdoor proof “Do Not Climb” signs for safety and informational signs identifying turtle name, sponsor, and supported non-profit
• Marketing & Promotion
  • Turtle Tide Guide brochures were created and distributed for visitors to use as a map
  • Costs associated with promotion and execution of two events: Turtle Tide Art Reveal and the Turtle Tide Art Auction
• Turtle Tide Guide Surcies
  • As an incentive to visit and learn more about the turtles, everyone who submitted pictures with all 10 turtles receives a surprise surcie (last year, we sent out 100 gifts!)
• Time & Labor
  • Countless hours of support from volunteers to help with transportation of turtles & stands to/from Walterboro for clear-coating; help attaching stands to turtles, storage of turtles at Civic Center, help with both events, etc.
