Red, White, and Beach: Celebrating July 4th on Edisto!

There is no better way to celebrate America’s 250th birthday than by spending the day on Edisto! Our beautiful beaches, local businesses, and event lineup make Edisto the perfect place to spend the 4th of July!

This year, Edisto is going all out to celebrate our nation’s freedom with a patriotic day of family fun. Kick off your morning at 10:00 a.m. with our legendary Golf Cart Parade! Grab your tinsel, flags, and finest red, white, and blue gear to decorate your ride and join the procession! Afterward, head straight to the beach to soak up the sun and keep your eyes glued to the sky at 1:24 p.m. for the thrilling Salute from the Shore, where roaring F-16 fighter jets will fly over the coastline in a tribute to our armed forces. While personal fireworks are not permitted on our pristine beaches, we have you covered! Bring your lawn chairs and picnics and join us at Bay Creek Park for an unforgettable night of music and a professional fireworks display to cap off the day. Beyond the Beach Chair

Need a break from the beach? Edisto offers plenty of ways to keep the fun going both on and off the sand! Try your luck at Lions Club Bingo, held every Tuesday and Thursday, or bring the kids to Vacation Bible School at The Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island from July 6–9th. If you’re looking to stay active, challenge friends and family to a match at the public pickleball courts near the intersection of Lee Street and Neptune Street, explore the island’s natural beauty by renting bikes or kayaks, or tee off for a relaxing round at The Plantation Course at Edisto. No matter how you choose to spend your time, there are plenty of opportunities to make lasting memories around the island!

Golf Cart Safety

Beach Rules

Town of Edisto rules and regulations for golf carts:

• Golf carts must have a current Edisto Beach decal.
• Must have a SC DMV registration/decal
• Operators must have a valid license on their person while operating the golf cart.
• Golf carts can be operated only within four miles of the DMV registered address.
• If there’s a car behind you, kindly pull aside and let them pass.
• Golf carts may be operated only on secondary roadway or street. This includes every road in the Town of Edisto Beach limits. Please do not drive golf cards on Palmetto Boulevard or SC HWY 174.
• Golf carts may cross a Palmetto Boulevard, you must go straight across, cannot be at an angle.
• Speed CANNOT exceed 19 mph.
• Children are not to be held on the operator’s lap while operating the golf cart.
• May be operated only during daylight hours (30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset).
• Open container laws, all motor vehicle laws, and parking laws apply to golf carts.

For more rules on golf cart use, visit our blog discussing Golf Cart Use. With your cooperation, we all can enjoy cruising around Edisto safely! And, as a reminder, a rental is your best and only choice when it comes to golf carts, as you are not allowed to bring your own golf cart to Edisto.

 The following activities are prohibited on the beach:

• Glass containers
• Bonfires
• Littering
• Motorized vehicles
• Motorized water craft
• Sailboats on sand dunes or grassy areas of dunes
• Parking on sand dunes
• Unleashed dogs prohibited on the beach May 1 through Oct 31. Owners must clean up pet excrement
• Leaving holes on beach
• Disturbing or hanging items on sand fencing
• Disturbing, damaging, trampling or removing vegetation that stabilizes dunes

*PLEASE NOTE: There are no lifeguards on duty. Practice personal water safety and leave only your footprints in the sand.  Please respect our citizens and do not trespass on private property.

Beach Parking

The Town of Edisto Beach has 37 public beach accesses located at each intersection on Palmetto Boulevard providing access to the Atlantic Ocean. No overnight parking is allowed at the beach accesses.  Parking is allowed at beach accesses from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and is enforced by the Police Department.

Handicap Accessibility:

Most beach accesses cross over a dune feature.  Folks with modified accessibility needs should use Lybrand, Mitchell, Baynard and Edings.  Beach mats have been provided at Beach Access 1, 9, 20 and 28 to help with crossing over the dune.

State Park Parking and Beach Access:

State park hours are 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily. Cost of admission is $8 per adult, $5 for SC seniors, $4 per child age 6-15, and Free for children 5 and younger. For more information about the Edisto Beach State Park, visit here! The State Park will likely fill up quickly! It is recommended you arrive early to get a spot!
